LECCIÓN TREINTA Y OCHO.         LESSON THIRTY-EIGHT.

                              VOCABULARY.

A lily.                                  Un lirio.

A tulip.                               Un tulipán.

A pansy.                            Un pensamiento.

A violet.                             Una violeta.

A chrysanthemum.        Un crisantemo.

A pink/ Carnation.          un clavel.

A bunch of roses.            Un manojo de rosas.

A basket.                           Un cesto.

A cherry.                           Una cereza.

An apricot.                        Un albaricoque.

How many?.                     ¿Cuántos/ cuántas?.

               NOTAS.

1)      Los nombres terminados en Y precedida de consonante, tales como LILY, PANSY, DAISU, CHERRY etc. Hacen el plural en IES: LILIES, PANSIES, DAISIES, y CHERRIES.

El verbo TO HAVE, haber o tener, toma la forma HAD en todas las personas del pretérito:

I had, you had, he had, she had, we had, you had, they had.

Yo tenía, usted tenía, él tenía, etc.

            FORMA INTERROGATIVA.

Had I?, has you?, has he?, had she? Had we?, had you?, had they?.

¿Tenía yo?, ¿tenía usted?, ¿tenía él?, etc.

            FORMA NEGATIVA.

I had not, you had not, he had not, she had not, we had not, you had not, they had not.

Yo no tenía, usted no tenía, él no tenía, etc.

            EJEMPLOS:

We had many pears and apples.

The girls had many apricots and walnuts.

Who had a bunch of roses?.

            Nota.

2)     La palabra GIRL puede traducirse como “niña” o “muchacha”, indistintamente.

Doly had a bunch of roses and some carnations.

Our cousin Peggy had many oranges, cherries and grapes.

The gardener had a great number of flowers: pansies, tulips, violets, lilies and chrysanthemums.

                             

                              EXERCISES.

Pónganse en forma interrogativa las siguientes frases: You had a few walnuts. She had a básquet of grapes. They had many lilies. They had many pinks and roses.

Póngase en forma negativa las siguientes frases:

We had many violets. They had many lilies. The florist had many tulips.

Traducir al español:

Nelly had a bunch of chrysanthemums and a basket of cherries. Who had a bunch of chrysanthemums? Nelly.

Had you many roses?. Yes, we had many. My cousin Joan had many lilies and pansies.

Traducir al inglés:

¿Cuántas manzanas tenían ustedes?. Teníamos muchas. ¿Cuántas peras tenía su cuñado Jaime). Tenía cinco peras y dos ciruelas. ¿Tenía usted muchas flores?. Si, tenía veinte rosas, diez claveles y una gran cantidad de tulipanes.
